Perfume (1982)

An early animation programmed in C on the PDP-11 in Harold Cohen's studio, visualizing how perfume molecules escaping a semi-enclosed bottle diffuse evenly into surrounding space, a diffusion process that anticipates the models behind today's generative image synthesis. Chance Encounters (2002)

A computer-generated installation on video displays across the 7th & Metro subway platforms in Los Angeles, running three installments of database-driven text and imagery on names, passing thoughts, and objects commuters carry, drawing out the fleeting connections of a transit "non-place." Real-time video display installation.

Dynamic Confluence (2020)

A variable-dimension visualization with real-time spatialized audio, running on its own or activated by viewers' motion, that positions images in 3D space via Voronoi tessellation and sets them orbiting to trigger an evolving Xenakis-inspired soundscape. Screen-based or interactive installation projection.

Slice (1998, reconstructed 2015)

A passage installation at Siemens' Rotunde Gallery in Munich where personnel walking between public and private spaces triggered spinning texts, roulette-style, that settled on a phrase drawn from 1992 SF Weekly personal ads. Interactive installation (dimensions variable).

Ising Model (2004–2018)

A series of computer-generated animations and works-on-paper built from a matrix of cells that switch states by reading their neighbors, cycling between conformity and erratic disorder through physicist Ernst Ising's model of magnetic polarization. Computer-generated animations and works on paper.

AutoVision (2015)

An autonomous eco-system where three PTZ cameras scan the gallery for faces, adding each to a projected virtual reconstruction of the room where existing images briefly turn to look at every newcomer, while a fourth virtual camera roams to generate cinematic shifts. 3 PTZ cameras, 3 projectors, 1 computer, custom software.
