Artificial Intelligence (1981)

A two-panel staged still-life whose tabletop objects shift between the two black-and-white frames, captioned by an ELIZA-style question-and-answer exchange that names colors the photographs withhold, prompting viewers to guess the hues. Two-page spread, Parachute journal.

Equivalents II (1992)

An early text-to-image installation where a phrase typed by the viewer generates an abstract, cloud-like image through a Brownian-motion process seeded by the text, paired with sentiment analysis and a word-matching database. Interactive installation with custom software, screen projections and terminal.

Pockets Full of Memories (2003–2006)

A participatory archive installation where visitors scan objects, tag them, and rate their properties, and a Kohonen self-organizing map arranges the growing collection by semantic similarity, settling from an empty database into an emergent, self-organized order over the run of the exhibition. 2 to 4 screen projections, scanning station, 2 terminals, wall design.

Swarm Vision (2013)

Autonomous pan-tilt-zoom cameras on rails scan the gallery through separate computer-vision algorithms and negotiate over what to observe, converging on whatever one camera finds salient and building their images into a shifting volumetric field across two screens. 3 PTZ cameras on rails, custom software, 2 projectors or HD screens. Alchemist’s Study / Abstraction Studies (2022)

An exhibition of eight large-scale woven tapestries generated with MidJourney v3, spanning two series: the representational Alchemist's Study and the abstract Abstraction Studies. Inspired by Raymond Queneau's "Exercises of Style" and the textile work of Anni Albers, the project merges the virtual and the tangible, translating AI image synthesis into the craft of tapestry fabrication. Seventy-two images generated in MidJourney version 5 initiated with the text prompt "Dirty, late 1960s Pontiac Bel Air laid out in a random way in an open industrial space, black and white photograph, 400ASA Tri-X, on a bed of pebbles" are continuously randomly shuffled with the occasional pause.
